What are the divisions of the ANS?
Slide1.jpeg

As mentioned before, the autonomic nervous system is responsible for the control of the bodies internal environment and through homeostatic mechanisms, helps to keep the internal environment constant.

There are two divisions of the ANS.

  1. Sympathetic: The sympathetic division of the ANS responds to the body for greater physical activity; this is known as the 'fight-or-flight' response

  2. Parasympathetic: The parasympathetic division of the ANS responds to the body for the maintenance of rest and relaxation, also known as 'rest and digest'
