While everyone is busy preparing for end of year examinations, we thought it would be a great idea to point out some of the fantastic scholarship opportunities that are out there! If you're a high achieving student or experiencing disadvantage, it may be a great idea to put your hand up for a scholarship!
For example, consider a $15,000 scholarship from Curtin or ECU that is granted automatically for students with an ATAR above 97 and 90 respectively. A scholarship valued at $15,000 is worth almost a year's worth of work at a part time job, if you worked for $20/hr for 15 hours a week for 52 weeks (20*15*52 = $15,600).

A whole year off work? Now that's worth considering. A little bit of effort writing up a scholarship essay or application can go a long way.
When I was in University, I got the Curtin Excellence Scholarship worth $15,000. While the smart thing would be to pay off half of my Commerce Degree, I ended up putting that money towards an international exchange at Stanford University, which was the best time of my life.

Tips for Scholarship Applications
Know the Deadline - Rushing an application last minute could lead to errors which will not look favourably. Make sure you have the time to address the entire selection criteria.
Tell Your Story - Everyone is unique, so is your story. Tell the assessors your story of who you are and why you're worthy of the scholarship and how the benefits will help you achieve your goals.
Focus on Impact - Define how the scholarship will help others in the community. Individuals and organisations who provide scholarships do so with the intention of benefit others who want to good. In other words, paying it forward. How will you use the scholarship benefits to better serve your community?
Understand the Sponsor - Where scholarships are financed by a particular person or organisation, understand their story and values. How do you share and live the same values and how will you use the scholarship benefits to live out the person/organisation's mission?
